From Skills Gap to Talent Pool – Jobseekers Graduating from Digital Skills Academy’s WebElevate Programme Showcase their Digital Innovations to Future Employers

From an iPad app and game to help children learn to read, an app for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award Alumni, to a children’s iPad game for the Pencil Pilots cartoon series; these are just some of the digital innovations that have been developed by participants of Digital Skills Academy’s WebElevate programme, a digital technology programme focused on developing the talents of graduate jobseekers to work in the high-growth Internet and digital technology sectors.

The design of the WebElevate programme provides participants with opportunities to work in multi-disciplinary teams developing real-world digital projects for industry partners.

Examples of digital innovations include:

• Learning app and game for Gill & Macmillan

• Mobile app for EY Entrepreneur of the Year Alumni

• Customer analytics dashboard for Soundwave Music

• Children’s maths game for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

• Children’s literacy app for The Educational Company of Ireland

• Digital marketing campaign for IDA Ireland

• Recruitment website for Version 1

• Game development for Keg Kartoonz’s animated series The Pencil Pilots

These digital projects which range from innovative mobile, web and tablet apps and games, to websites and marketing campaigns, will be showcased to employers at the WebElevate Showcase Event next Wednesday, 25th September from 4pm to 6pm at Digital Skills Academy.

Employers looking to make their next digital hires are invited to see the high-calibre of work produced and to meet the talent behind them; the graduating mobile app and game developers, digital projects managers, online marketers, web video producers, copywriters, UX designers and front-end developers.

Paul Dunne, CEO of Digital Skills Academy said “We are focused on developing industry-ready talent, and nothing proves our graduates’ industry-readiness and digital capabilities more than demonstrating their capabilities in delivering real projects for real clients. Our approach is delivering high levels of successful employment outcomes for our graduates. Within three months of graduating, 71% of our programme participants (March 2013) were back in the workforce. The WebElevate Showcase event provides employers with an opportunity to see first-hand the talent that is emerging from our WebElevate programme and to connect with them before they hit the open job market.”

Delivered by Digital Skills Academy, the WebElevate programme offers a Level 8 Continuing Professional Development Diploma in Digital Media Production, awarded by Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). Part of the Higher Education Authority’s Springboard initiative, the programme is free-of-charge for eligible jobseekers.

Employers recruiting jobseekers from the WebElevate programme can avail of the new JobsPlus initiative, which provides a financial incentive to employers who offer employment opportunities to people who have been unemployed for 12 months or more.
